From an early age, it was clear that Dr. Alan Poon loved being around animals. After completing his Bachelors of Science with Honours degree from Queen's University, he was able to combine his penchant for medical sciences with his passion for caring for animals at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. During his time in vet school, he was able to develop his interest in surgery as well as small mammals, such as rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs, not to mention a palate for single malts!

Dr. Poon has been living and working in Simcoe County since 2012. He was in private practice in Barrie, treating and caring for numerous client pets from the surrounding area as well as patients from local dog rescue organizations and humane societies. For his efforts and exceptional service, Dr. Poon was voted winner of “Favourite/Best Veterinarian” in the Barrie Advance Reader’s Choice Awards in both 2020 and 2021.

Opportunity arose in late 2021 and Dr. Poon started Mariposa Veterinary Hospital, with the vision of combining exceptional client and patient care with a clinic culture of respect and work-life balance.

When he's not in scrubs, Dr. Poon enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 rescue mutts Bree and Keira. He also enjoys playing volleyball, travelling, trying out local cuisine, and adding to his collection of Iron Man and Marvel collectibles.
